| General FAQs on 2FA |
What is Second Factor Authentication (2FA)?
|
Second Factor Authentication (2FA) is a security measure that DBS Vickers is implementing to enhance the security of online trading. It involves the use of a 2FA device for all online customers. This 2FA device generates a unique dynamic security code, also known as a One-Time PIN (OTP), to validate and authenticate you, when you access our online trading services. With the introduction of 2FA, you will require the following in order to perform transactions through your online trading account:
- Your User ID
- Your Login Password
- One-time PIN (OTP) generated by the 2FA device
|
|
Who would require the 2FA device? |
All DBS Vickers customers who wish to perform online transactions via DBS Vickers online and/or DBSVefx will require a 2FA device.
|
|
Why is DBS Vickers introducing 2FA for online trading and what are the benefits? |
DBS Vickers is committed to providing our customers with a high level of online security. 2FA is a stronger form of identity validation and authentication as it relies on:
- Information you know (that is your User ID and Login Password)
- Information DBS Vickers provides to you (One-time PIN generated by the 2FA device)
Online fraud and mischief are becoming increasingly sophisticated and as they evolve, online security itself has to advance to combat these threats. The introduction of 2FA will mean a greater peace of mind for you when you trade online. |

I travel frequently; will I be able to use DBS Vickers Trade Secure abroad? |
| Yes you will be able to do so. The device is designed to be as light and as portable as possible for your convenience. We recommend that you keep this security device with items you are unlikely to leave behind, such as your keys, to ensure that you have it with you at all times. |
|
Why did DBS Vickers choose to issue a physical security device as the 2FA authentication method, when there are other alternatives available in the market? |
| DBS Vickers has evaluated several options. After a careful assessment based on security, convenience, user-friendliness and cost, the physical security device "DBS Vickers Trade Secure" was chosen as the most effective solution. Furthermore, the solution is not dependent on third parties. |
|
Why did DBS Vickers not choose a SMS solution? |
The two main reasons for not choosing an SMS solution are:
- DBS Vickers Trade Secure provides you with a unique, dynamic, and time-sensitive PIN without time lag. SMS solution is dependent on a third party (i.e. telco company). During peak periods such as Christmas and New Year, SMS messages may not be disseminated in a timely manner to you.
- Incompatibility of telecommunications network in countries such as Korea and Japan.
|
|
Why not use software embedded in mobile phones? |
This solution is not selected for the following reasons:
- People generally change their mobile phones often. There is a high probability that mobile phones are traded in or sold off without deletion of the software. Moreover, if passwords are saved on the mobile phones, the trading access will be compromised.
- Mobile phones could be subjected to hacking activities that compromise the functioning of the 2FA security measure.
- There may be display issues with different phone models which can cause misreading of the information.
- Corruption to the software may affect the user's phone.

FAQs on 2FA relating to DBSVefx customers |
When will DBS Vickers' 2FA be implemented? |
| We have introduced the 2FA security process for our online trading services from 1 July 2011. If you have not registered your account for 2FA, we would appreciate your kind cooperation to register your account for 2FA as soon as possible to avoid disruption to your trading.
|
|
Will there be any changes to the current DBSVefx trading services? |
No, there will not be any changes to the current DBSVefx trading services. The 2FA implementation will only affect the way you access your DBSVefx trading account.
|
|
When is the use of the 2FA device required? |
| Once you have registered your 2FA device, you will be required to enter the dynamic PIN every time you log in to your DBSVefx trading account together with your User Name and Password. |
|
What is this 2FA device? |
| It can either be a DBS iB Secure Device or a DBS Vickers Trade Secure Device.

|
|
The system is unable to accept the dynamic PIN generated by the 2FA device. Why is this so? |
There are various reasons why you are unable to log in. One of the reasons could be due to keying in an expired dynamic PIN. For security reasons, the randomly generated 6-digit dynamic PIN is only valid for a short period of time. When you enter an expired dynamic PIN, you will receive a message requesting you to try again. Please try to log in again with a new dynamic PIN.
If the problem persists, please call our Customer Service hotlines at (65) 6327 2288, if you are a DBS Vickers online customer, or (65) 6327 9559, if you are a DBSVefx customer.
